Cranfield University in the U.K. is one of the most prominent postgraduate universities in the country that are engaged in research and education with emphasis on engineering, applied chemistry, management and public administration fields. The university is universally renowned for its development of a vertical take-off and landing aircraft “Harrier,” as well as a business school. The university also has the best results of industrial-academic joint research in England.In May 1998, the City of Kitakyushu and Cranfield University concluded an agreement and in April 2001, the university was established in the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park. The university is engaged in joint research with local universities and companies to enhance local industries and create new industries.Currently, the university is implementing research on ecological design (mainly architectural energy field) and nano-biotechnology (development of a biosensor for measuring environment pollutants).
