Dr. Masayuki Kawai obtained his Ph.D degree from Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the University of Tokyo on research to propose alternative community development strategy to large scale oil palm plantations in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. After serving as research fellow at the University of Tokyo and engaged in the research projects contributing to develop REDD+ safeguard in Indonesia and Myanmar, he started working for IGES. Currently he engages in task and research to support REDD+ implementation under the Joint Crediting Mechanism.
